Born in 1995, Yann Thenet began the oboe at the age of 7 at the CRR in Lyon where he evolved for eleven years in the classes of César Ognibene, Olivier Hue and Guy Laroche. By participating in the Youth Orchestra of the Orchester National de Lyon, he fully realized his passion for music and decided to embark on a musical career. By perfecting his skills with Jérôme Guichard, he entered the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in 2014 in the class of Jean-Louis Capezzali. In 2017, he obtained a Bachelor's degree with honors from the jury, and in 2019 a Master's degree in orchestral musician.

During his studies he had the chance to work in masterclasses with internationally renowned oboists such as Nora Cismondi, Maurice Bourgue, Jacques Tys, Dominik Wollenweber, Henrik Wahlgren, etc.

Particularly attached to orchestral playing since always, Yann participates in numerous projects with, among others, the Orchester Français des Jeunes, the Orchester National de France and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, of which he is one of the solo oboes from 2018 to 2021. In 2018 he was appointed principal oboe of the Orchester des Pays de Savoie, and in 2019 he joined the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne, as second soloist and principal English horn, under the direction of Joshua Weilerstein.

With these different formations, he had the chance to perform in the most prestigious European venues, alongside renowned conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Herbert Blomstedt, David Zinman, Jonathan Nott, Klaus Mäkelä, Denis Russel-Davies, Vladimir Jurowski, Lorenzo Viotti or Leonardo García Alarcón.

Also passionate about chamber music, he founded the Astera ensemble in 2019 with friends from his studies.
